Today, the Slovenian Minister of Economy, Mr Andrej Vizjak, met in Brussels with the Vice-President of the European Commission and the Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry, Mr Günter Verheugen.

Today, the Slovenian Minister of Economy, Mr Andrej Vizjak, met in Brussels with the Vice-President of the European Commission and the Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry, Mr Günter Verheugen. Mr Vizjak and Mr Verheugen, who met within the framework of Slovenia's preparation for the EU Presidency, discussed the Lisbon strategy, the industrial policy and innovation, the policy of promoting entrepreneurship and better regulation.

"Slovenia's EU presidency will not only be a political but also an economic project. In the forefront will consequently be numerous measures, through which we intend to raise the competitiveness of the European as well as Slovene companies. Being a very important partner in drafting and implementing the relevant policies, we wish to further enhance our co-operation with the Commission", said Mr Vizjak after the meeting.

 

Today, Mr Vizjak also addressed the participants of the European Conference for Renewable Energy, which is currently taking place in Brussels. In the afternoon, the Minister will attend the signing of the Common Statement on the Feed-In System, through which Slovenia, as the third country, will join the Initiative of Germany and Spain for increasing the production of green electricity. By signing this statement Slovenia wishes to further its active participation in developing and accelerating the supply of electricity from the renewable sources of energy.
